Grounds

Challenge

Grounds started as a coffee bar inside a shared storefront, with no coffee industry background, no existing systems, and nothing to build off of. Every decision, sourcing, menu, staff training, the shape of the room, had to get made from scratch and made repeatable fast enough to run daily service while it was still being figured out.

Approach

The work split evenly between brand and operations. A full identity system, wordmark to color palette to voice, built alongside the physical experience of the space: flow, signage, and a drink program built around real sourcing and a signature menu. Behind the counter, a 25-SOP manual, a 30-day onboarding program, and a full scheduling and inventory system turned what used to live in one person's head into something a team could actually run without them there.

Outcome

A specialty coffee bar with a defined brand voice, a repeatable food and drink program, and the operational backbone to run as a real business instead of a founder's daily improvisation, proof that the gap between "the founder knows how to do this" and "the business can do this without the founder" is closable.
